Polyoxymethylene whisker

Polyoxymethylene whisker was the major product in Masatoshi Iguchi’s career, discovered in 1972 and later applied to acoustic diaphragams from Sony Corp. Eight papers are included in this homepage as no total review was written. A Science Prize of The Society of High-Polymers, Japan and a Prize of the Minister of State for Science and Technology were awarded to this work in 1975 and 1983, respectively.

Bacterial Cellulose

The potentiality that films prepared by drying pellicles produced by acetobacters could be high-strength material was pointed out by Masatoshi Iguchi when he met Dr. Yamanana of Ajinomoto Central Research and verified by mechanical measurements. The materials were applied again to acoustic diaphragams from Sony Corp. Since a total review was published, only a few papers are included. A Distinguished Patent Invention Award (form The Patent Office) and a JSBBA Award for Achievement in Technological Research (from the Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistrys) were awarded to this work in 1989 and 1998, respectively.

Natural Rubber

Below is a result obtained at Bogor Research Station for Rubber Technology during my stay there as a visiting research fellow in 1999 - 2002. For gutta percha, a cis isomer of natural rubber, some efforts had been made to find a new value, if any, with knowledge of modern polymer science but no significant result was obtained (a note for a meeting is given).
